Gifting a Longevity Lock is to wish well on someone. The lock can represent values of commitment, promise, memory and health.

History
During the Wei Dynasty plague where diseases were everywhere, people would use 5 coloured silk to make a rope and tie it to women and children as a prayer for their safety and long lives.

During the Song Dynasty, it was meant for the royals' longevity and only became popular during the Ming dynasty. It was used as an accessory for a newborn child. Usually given during a child’s full moon or on their first birthday celebration.
